Based on experience: Even if circumstances appear factual, a lot has been changed/altered (except direct quotes).
There are some of you who will know, either through me mentioning it on twitter (@Andrew_Ellery), or from me mentioning it elsewhere, that I was recently unemployed. Not for long I must add (or feel the need to add), and I kept myself busy with some freelance pieces of work and the odd bits and pieces that came my way. Having said that, there was a time when I literally had no work at all, and had to make my way to the jobcentre to sign on (I expected lots of computers with a bubbly lady inviting me to her CV workshop… quite the opposite actually). I have said it pretty publicly (on TV), that this experience was one of the most demoralising and humiliating times of my life. I must also note here that, although I came across many oppressive people and processes, I also came into contact with some incredibly nice and dedicated jobcentre staff, who were nothing but absolute angels.
